These are some samples of different products which I created.
I decided to make this media garden because I’m a storyteller. It tells the story of a heart beating until it burns – which could be from too many heartbreaks or loss or utter disappointment. Sometimes we love too much or love the wrong person and it ends up burning us. I found the picture of the burning rose to be quite telling in and of itself. I was able to find the smoke on a PowerPoint slide, and the abstract background has pieces of red and white colors chipped away like one’s soul or heart during a bad relationship. The sound I found starts out as a heartbeat in a haunting manner, but it continues in a way that makes the listener feel like they’re waiting for something, but it never comes.
There are several stories that could take place here – a broken-hearted romance, a story involving depression or any other mental condition, a horror story, etc.
I’m actually quite proud of the piece and I feel that I can use these types of skills for my books on a website and use them for work purposes.
This visual essay was created in order to persuade people that adopting dogs can actually be good. I wanted to show how happy the rescue dog is. No, he’s not a full breed of any kind, but he shares many traits from several types of breeds. People can spend time with the project understanding that rescue dogs can help even with mental conditions such as anxiety.
I found that selecting the images for this project was harder than I thought it would be. It challenged me because I wanted to use every picture of Eli, but I needed to find ones that actually would make sense with the narrative. I chose one of Eli when he was still in the shelter to show what he’d be living in prior to being adopted. The pictures I chose were like his journey so far—how he grew up and what all he’s learned. I wanted to share how he’s helped with my anxiety and how he protects me. The two of us have been through a lot, yet he’s always at my side and I wanted to show that through the pictures. Sharing pictures of his goofy side, his face sometimes, during playtime, and how when he’s on hardwood floors, his back legs must be touching a rug. Another challenge with the pictures is that there are only so many things you can show with them and may not paint the entire picture like a video would, however, I’m assuming that’s where the alt text comes to play. It is our duty to make sure whatever we create is understood by everyone who views it, and sometimes that is the most challenging piece of creating art of any kind.
I have always been fascinated with witches, especially the Salem Witch Trials as well as the Early-Modern European Trials. Not only do I want my project to be a choose your own adventure type, but also implore history simultaneously. Since I wrote a young adult series about witches with superpowers and wrote a novella about the history of the series, I would like to follow that story—but change it a little. In this project, I want to focus primarily on the Salem Trials. I want to show people how easy it was for others to blame innocent people for simply being a “witch.” People could look at someone wrong and be accused or if someone didn’t like a person, they would accuse them of being a witch.
For my project, I used Twine and created a game where the player starts out as a young woman who is a healer of sorts, like a doctor’s assistant, however, as time progresses, people all around town begin to question the player. As the player weaves through the different answers, I want them to realize it doesn’t matter what they say or do that leads them to an arrest and trial where they are condemned. The player has to figure out how to escape.
