As a graduate student, Crystal has assisted several students for academic editing in various stages of the process from conceptual to line editing. She works with authors for fiction novels, provides line and copy editing for newsletters, marketing materials, and communications as well. Crystal utilizes the Chicago Manual of Style, MLA, and APA. She has also authored and self-published five young adult novels.
When searching for an editor, authors tend to find this to be exhaustive and time-consuming. As she continues to learn the art of editing, she works one-on-one with authors to make their work the best reflection of their talent. Words and sentences are what gets her up in the morning. That and coffee. She loves helping authors brainstorm or try new ways of writing what they mean or working through scenes to make sure they flow with rhythm.
She will always respect that it is the author’s work, and she only wants to make it better!
Below are some samples of editing work I did for some of my clients.
My editorial guidance helped her narrow down exactly how she could implement her idea as well as offered different perspectives and understanding of material. She seemed to be more confident in building this project after we discussed ideas. Rebecca’s next steps are to map out her project and begin writing it out.
Provided developmental editing to Ms. Hoffmann. By collaborating with Ms. Hoffmann, I ensured pacing of the story, helped establish believable characters, and fixed any plot holes throughout. I continued to work with Ms. Hoffmann during this process and helped shape her story based on her concepts. When working with Ms. Hoffmann, or any author, I ask questions to make them think about certain situations or facets of their characters or the storyline. I guide the author throughout this process to better understand and to better their story.
I feel that my feedback helped Haley narrow down the layout and content. Her next steps are to decide on which platform to use and then drafting the piece.
I feel that my advice helped Katie figure out her audience as well as how to let the story flow and strengthen it and creating more interaction for the player.
